Are you born again?

Do you know what it means to be born again?

Have you ever been startled before? The Bible contains some fairly startling statements, and many of them came from Jesus himself. When Nicodemus came to see Jesus and confessed that Jesus was truly sent from God, Jesus responded with, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God" (John 3:3). Confused by the physical improbability of being born again, Nicodemus pressed Jesus for clarification. Jesus, again, said, "Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again'" (John 3:7). Nicodemus was still confused, and so Jesus continued:

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God" (John 3:16-18).

This leads to a question for you—do you believe in Jesus? It's not a question of do you know about Him, but have you accepted Him as your Lord and Savior and asked Him to forgive your sins? This is what it means to be born again.

The Bible is clear that this decision is the most important one that you can make in your life, yet once decided, it need never be doubted.

"[I]f you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9).

There are no works tied into this decision (Ephesians 2:8-9). Baptism does not save you, neither does church membership or church attendance. The only thing that does—and will—is the personal decision to repent and believe (Mark 1:15). Therefore, say 'yes' to Christ. Reach out to Him and learn that He is mighty to save, no matter your past, your present, your circumstances, or your fears.

"And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age" (Matthew 11:28-30).
