Someone might ask why—why not just focus on church planting or Bible studies or evangelism? Why include publications? The short answer is that my wife and I have a passion for books, reading, teaching, and writing. There is, for example, power in the written word. The Bible says as much in Hebrews 4:12 ("For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword . . ."). In fact, that's how I came to know Christ almost twenty years ago, not from someone witnessing to me, but from the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart as I read the Bible while at work.
My wife's salvation story is slightly different. For her, it was not from reading the Bible, which to many unbelievers can seem like reading someone else's mail, but from going to bookstores and—in her search for truth and meaning—purchasing a variety of religious books (many of them Christian). One of those books contained a little card that broke down sin, repentance, and salvation in a simple way. From this came my wife's salvation and a new life with Christ.
We believe that the Lord has enumerable ways to reach out to people. Many of those ways extend beyond the reach of any church, which some unbelievers will never visit, no matter how in depth the preaching or moving the music. We believe that is where our small ministry comes into play, explaining Christianity, Christ, His word, and what it means to be a Christian.
And for those who are Christians (new and old), we hope to provide teaching tools through our Proverbs 9:9 ministry to help believers overcome the inevitable trials and tribulations of life. Jesus stated, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly" (John 10:10), and part of that abundant life comes from knowing God's word and being able to apply it to our daily lives. Application comes after illustration and explanation, and if we are able to shed some light where there had once been darkness or confusion, then God has been glorified, and someone has been blessed. We hope that person is you . . .
